There are three (3) general types of family mediation. They are:
- Parenting or Family Relations Mediation.
- Financial Mediation.
- Comprehensive Family Mediation (includes 1 and 2 above).
Parenting or Family Relations Mediation deals with issues relating to the children, such as access, custody and parenting issues after separation and divorce, inter-family disputes, including parent-child and inter-generational conflict as well as child protection issues. Child protection issues are usually addressed by specially trained family mediators.
Financial Mediation deals with all aspects of the financial issues arising out of cohabitation, separation and divorce such as child support, spousal support, debts, division of property, equalization of net family property, possession of property, matrimonial home issues, etc...
Comprehensive Mediation deals with both the financial issues and issues relating to children.
